I am a lifelong resident of Chesapeake, Va. and retired from the Chesapeake Police Department in 2015. I am a self-taught acrylics artist. I started drawing when I was 13 and after graduating from Great Bridge High School in 1968, I took art lessons from Starr Quinn for a year where I learned the basics of oil painting. I have been married for 52 years and have two children, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. When my children were young, I started my own business called “Country at Heart” selling country crafts that my husband made out of wood and I painted, selling them at parties in peoples’ homes. After a few years of that, I decided to start painting on canvas again, but decided to try my hand at acrylics because it takes so long for oil to dry. I never attended school to learn how to paint, so I started painting with artists on You Tube, and with every painting I have done, I learned new techniques. I have sold a few paintings and given quite a few away to friends and family. I decided to join the Southside Artists Association in hopes of maybe someday showing my work in art shows.
