The Southside Artists Association was established in l965 as the Chesapeake Art Guild. As it grew, it moved the meeting place from Chesapeake Library to Oaklette and Oak Grove Methodist Churches. We now meet in the Conference Room at Towne Bank in Great Bridge at 12:00 PM on the first Tuesday of every month. Our members reside in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and NE North Carolina. Our name was changed to accommodate these areas.
The purpose of the organization is to promote the creation and appreciation of art, to encourage local artistic talent and to support civic endeavors that will enhance the beauty and cultural development of the area.
COVID-19 NOTES: We have been meeting virtually each month until COVID restrictions die down, and confidence grows that we can meet Face-to-Face safely.
Members of the association have had the opportunity to display their art work at the following locations: Norfolk Botanical Gardens, Wells Fargo Advisors at Dominion Towers, Cape Henry Collegiate School, Chesapeake Central and Major Hillard Library, Norfolk Senior Center, Chesapeake Park Symphony under the Stars and Portlock Galleries at Sono. Our membership consists of beginners as well as accomplished artists and teachers.
We have lectures and demos by local artists, plus a light lunch at the meetings.
