Betty Garrett began painting when she was diagnosed and treated for cancer. Her husband presented her with paints, brushes, canvases and said,  “You have always wanted to paint, now is your opportunity.”  She enrolled in classes that were offered locally by the Chesapeake Adult Education Department and attended many classes Painting was a great blessing for her during her recuperation and return to health. She attributes her recovery and victory over cancer to her faith in Jesus and His healing powers. Painting produced a lot of joy and peace during those testing times. She will quickly tell you, “I have met many new friends and received great encouragement from fellow artist".Betty continues to meet and paint regularly with other artists. Her subject preferences are old barns, buildings and landscapes. She does not consider herself a professional, but has done some commissioned work primarily in oils and acrylics.
